The word Indian luxury trains got recognition with the inception of Palace on Wheels train in 1982. A joint initiative of Rajasthan Tourism and Development Corporation (RTDC) and the Indian Railways, Palace on Wheels chugged on its maiden journey on 26th January, 1982.

Over the course of 30 years, this luxury train has attained unprecedented popularity and wide critical acclaim for its heritage, hospitality and refinement.

Rated as 4th best luxury train in the world, Palace on Wheels takes guests on a weeklong journey across erstwhile princely states of Rajasthan with a halt in ‘City of Taj’ Agra. The destinations of Rajasthan covered by this luxury tourist train include Jaipur, Udaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Bharatpur.

On the 2nd day of its weeklong Rajasthan tour, Palace on Wheels enters the famous ‘Pink City’ of Rajasthan- Jaipur.

The erstwhile domain of Kacchawa Rajputs, Jaipur got the title of ‘Pink City’ owing to its terracotta colored buildings that were painted so to welcome the arrival of King Edward in 1876. Listed below are the activities scheduled for the Jaipur tour on board Palace on Wheels train.

• Next on the cards is trip to Amber Fort. Amber Fort was the fortified mansion of Kacchawa Rajputs in the medieval era. The tradition of elephant ride for entering the gateway of this stunning edifice continues till date.

The famous markets of Jaipur are Johari Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar, Nehru Bazaar, Kishanpol Bazaar and Tripolia Bazaar known for traditionally made jewelry, Rajasthani footwear, Bandhani textiles and iron utensils & carpets respectively.
